Belle has been making masks for many months, creating beautiful, fully reversible face coverings to order, following the well-researched design created by Amanda, founder of Fashion Rebellion. We have now decided to offer them to you from our shop, because we are passionate about creating a functional and comfortable alternative to disposable masks. Take a look at our journal post all about how we make them.
We have a gorgeous selection of colourways, all of which are limited edition, made from beautiful vintage fabrics and fabric remnants that would otherwise be discarded. The main pink and white fabric featured is a length of vintage Conran 'Henrietta' print upholstery fabric. The main striped fabric is a beautiful piece of French ticking. The other designs printed on white are all 'new old stock' French tea towels. The bright pink print is a remnant length sourced from excellent charity WorkAid.
We have partnered with the marvellous Forget Me Not Originals to create a very special colourway. Emma searches far and wide to find the vintage fabrics that she uses to cover her beautiful notebooks or to bind editions of classic books. This process requires rectangular sections of material which sometimes leaves odd shaped offcuts. We have selected the most suitable of those offcuts to create some really stunning and utterly unique masks.
For every Forget Me Not Originals 'pot luck' combined vintage prints mask sold, we'll be donating 20% of the retail price to Cancer Research UK.
Size: We are offering these masks with two choices of elastic length, regular and large.
Our Values and this specific product
- Minimal waste, pollutants and emissions
Because these masks do not adhere to our plastic-free promise, and are not recyclable/compostable due to the filters, wire and elastics, we are donating £1 for every mask sold to WeForest, an NGO specialising in reforestation projects.
Mask Attributes: this double-layer mask should give you mid-70% levels of safety from inhaling or exhaling virus particles. You will also receive two HEPA filters for each mask. This filter takes your mask's efficiency up to mid-80%. Research says that after three hours of wear the filter’s efficiency further increases by almost 6%, and you can continue to use a single filter for up to two weeks of regular use.
There’s a short section of wire in the channel on one edge of the mask. This is to go over the bridge of your nose, for you to shape it to fit you just right and ensure there are as few gaps in the mask as possible.
Care: The masks are washable, but from a germ perspective it’s more useful for you to air-dry the masks after wearing for at least four hours or until bone dry. There’s a chance of the nose wire coming loose in your washing machine so only handwash them. DO NOT WASH THE FILTERS!
