Ishkar's Link earrings were designed with the simple stud as a starting point. The two interlinking, softened rectangles create an architectural look. The lower 'link' is free to swing, sparkle and twist creating a wonderfully kinetic effect. These statement earrings are handcrafted in the old city of Kabul, Afghanistan from 16 Carat Gold Plated Sterling Silver and Bamiyan Turquoise.

Known to locals as Bamiyan Turquoise, this mineral (scientific name: Chrysocolla) is mined just a stone’s throw away from the famous Buddhas of Bamiyan which were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. Bamiyan sits in a stunning lush green valley surrounded by snow capped peaks.
This jewellery is made by Waqas. He studied jewellery at the Turquoise Mountain Institute in Afghanistan, where he met his friends and future business partners Haider and Ahmad. “As we were great friends before, we know each other’s habits and how to get the best out of each other,” Waqas explains. Their close friendship and great partnership can explain the uncompromising quality of their jewellery.
On top of the amount paid to the artisans, a further 10% of the value of this product goes towards the Turquoise Mountain Foundation. Turquoise Mountain supports Afghan artisans by providing them with three years of technical training, as well as a full range of business support following graduation. You can read more about the Foundation in our profile piece about Ishkar in our journal.
