Graphic, versatile, modern and elegant. What more could you ask for from these ISHKAR hoop earrings? We have these handcrafted earrings in 925 Sterling Silver or 16 Carat Gold plate, with either lapis lazuli or Bamiyan turquoise stones. The hoops are just over 3cm in diameter.
They have been cleverly designed so that you can wear them in three ways. Either with the stud and the hoop together, in front of your earlobe, with the stud in front and the hoop behind your earlobe, or just the stud alone. That's triple the wearability.

The deep blue lapis lazuli stone, which comes from high in the valley of Sar-e Sang in North Eastern Afghanistan. This iconic stone was once so exclusive it was reserved for the funeral masks of Pharaohs and for the brush tips of the Renaissance’s most renowned artists.
The green-toned, Bamiyan Turquoise (scientific name: Chrysocolla) is less well-known but equally striking. It is mined just a stone’s throw away from the famous Buddhas of Bamiyan which were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001.
This jewellery is made by Waqas. He studied jewellery at the Turquoise Mountain Institute in Afghanistan, where he met his friends and future business partners Haider and Ahmad. “As we were great friends before, we know each other’s habits and how to get the best out of each other,” Waqas explains. Their close friendship and great partnership can explain the uncompromising quality of their jewellery.
On top of the amount that Ishkar pay the artisans, a further 10% of the value of this product goes towards the Turquoise Mountain Foundation. Turquoise Mountain supports Afghan artisans by providing them with three years of technical training, as well as a full range of business support following graduation. You can read more about the Foundation in our profile piece about Ishkar in our journal.
