The design of the 'Four Rivers' ring was inspired by the four rivers of paradise, expressed in the four graphic panels of lapiz lazuli. It's a really stunning statement piece that balances visual impact with a certain delicacy. We have selected a beautiful collection of gold-plated, lapis lazuli detailed jewellery from Ishkar. Each piece works beautifully alone, but we think they are best when worn together.

This jewellery is made by Waqas. He studied jewellery at the Turquoise Mountain Institute in Afghanistan, where he met his friends and future business partners Haider and Ahmad. “As we were great friends before, we know each other’s habits and how to get the best out of each other,” Waqas explains. Their close friendship and great partnership can explain the uncompromising quality of their jewellery.
This gold-plated style is all detailed with deep blue lapis lazuli stone, which comes from high in the valley of Sar-e Sang in North Eastern Afghanistan. This iconic stone was once so exclusive it was reserved for the funeral masks of Pharaohs and for the brush tips of the Renaissance’s most renowned artists.
On top of the amount that Ishkar pay the artisans, a further 10% of the value of this product goes towards the Turquoise Mountain Foundation. Turquoise Mountain supports Afghan artisans by providing them with three years of technical training, as well as a full range of business support following graduation. You can read more about the Foundation in our profile piece about Ishkar in our journal.
