These are another Casa Cubista x Plum & Belle exclusive!
Casa Cubista have given these traditional rugs a whole new lease of life just by recontexting them, showing how gorgeously they work in a contemporary environment in every room of the house. They even make excellent bathmats.
The rugs are handwoven from pre-consumer fashion waste from the Portuguese fashion industry. The selvedge edges of jersey fabric are generally a bit uneven so this section is strip-cut off to create a more precise, regimented area from which clothing pattern pieces are cut. These selvedge strips are repurposed by hand-weavers to create these beautifully soft yet hardy rugs.
The textural pattern is created by pulling loops up one at a time while the rugs are on the loom, hence the product name. They are woven by hand by different weavers, meaning the patterns may vary very slightly, piece by piece, making each rug unique. Additionally, although we are only selling white rugs, there may be a mix of warm and cool whites within the production as the material is sourced from a variety of locations. If you order more than one rug, we'll do our utmost to ensure that your set is as closely colour matched as possible.
Sizes: medium 50cm x 100cm, large 70cm x 150cm
Composition: because these are made from a mixture of reclaimed fabrics, we can only approximate their composition as 80% cotton, 20% other fibres.
